Chimayo, NM – On January 16, 2022, at around 10:22 PM, the New Mexico State Police was requested by the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) Security Threat Intelligence Unit (STIU) for assistance in taking Daniel Archuleta, 44, of Chimayo, NM into custody. NMCD had reason to believe Archuleta was at house 84B Camino De Los Ranchos in Chimayo. Archuleta had an active federal warrant out for his arrest for homicide.
When officers arrived at the address Archuleta was seen running from the home. Officers chased Archuleta, who ran back into the residence and barricaded himself inside. Officers were able to successfully remove two uninvolved occupants from the residence to safety. Multiple commands were given asking Archuleta to come out of the residence but were ignored by Archuleta.
The New Mexico State Police Tactical and Crisis Negotiations Teams were called to the scene. They arrived at around 1:30 a.m. and began negotiating with Archuleta. After about a 5-hour stand-off, New Mexico State Police Crisis Negotiators were able to talk Archuleta into peacefully surrendering to the New Mexico State Police Tactical Team.
Archuleta was arrested without further incident and booked into the Santa Fe County Detention Center on his outstanding federal homicide arrest warrant. For information on the homicide arrest warrant please contact the United States Marshals Service.
