This update gives additional details leading up to the arrest of Danny Trujillo.
Chimayo, NM- On Tuesday, September 27, 2021, at around 5:47 p.m., the New Mexico State Police in Espanola, NM was dispatched to the Family Dollar store located at 672-A on New Mexico 76 in Chimayo, NM, in reference to a wanted person, Danny Trujillo who was inside the store. Upon the arrival of a New Mexico State Police Officer, the officer entered the store to speak with the employees, when the Officer observed Trujillo. Trujillo immediately began to flee on foot through the store. A foot pursuit ensued as Trujillo ran towards the front entrance and exited the store. Trujillo continued to run west towards County Road 96, where he crossed the roadway and entered the backyard of a residence. During the foot pursuit, the officer deployed his department-issued taser which was unsuccessful. Trujillo was taken into custody and arrested for three active arrest warrants. He was booked into the Rio Arriba County Adult Detention Center in Tierra Amarilla, NM.
Santa Fe County, NM- New Mexico State Police is asking for the public’s help in locating a male suspect who shot at a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Deputy in Santa Fe County. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted to investigate the incident.
Agents learned on August 18, 2021, at around 2:00 a.m., a Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped to assist and help two males who were changing a flat tire on a gold Nissan Maxima at the La Tiendita Gas Station in Alcalde, NM. Upon approach, the deputy recognized one of the males as Danny Trujillo (36) of Chimayo, NM. Trujillo had three active warrants for his arrest for failure to comply with probation, an arrest warrant for drugs, and an arrest warrant for a traffic offense. As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, Trujillo had just finished changing the tire. The other male and Trujillo got into the vehicle and sped off at a high rate of speed. The deputy observed a third male sitting in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle at the time they sped off.
The deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit south on State Road 68. The Nissan turned around and proceeded north. During the pursuit, the deputy heard multiple gunshots being fired towards him from the Nissan. Near milepost 10, the Nissan turned around and proceeded back south on State Road 68. As the vehicle was turning around, the deputy observed muzzle flash from gunfire towards him coming from the driver’s side of the vehicle. The deputy was unsuccessful in apprehending Trujillo and the other two males during the pursuit. The Nissan was later located unoccupied in the Ohkay Owingeh area. An arrest warrant was issued for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer on Danny Trujillo.
Danny Trujillo is a Hispanic male, 5’5” tall, 138 pounds, with brown eyes, and black hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white muscle shirt. The unidentified male who was helping change a tire with Trujillo is described as a Hispanic male in his 40’s or 50’s. The other unidentified male sitting in the rear seat of the Nissan was described as having a neck tattoo. Danny Trujillo is considered armed and dangerous.
