The Emergency Response Team (ERT) department of the New Mexico State Police Special Ops Bureau is a highly trained unit responsible for rapidly responding to emergency situations that require swift action. ERT is the largest specialty team in the department and responds to civil unrest, political events, and planned and unplanned protests. They also assist in case of natural disasters. ERT has been used to quell violent riots and can be called out for multiple days and nights. Regardless of political affiliation or personal beliefs, ERT is used to conserve and safeguard the constitution’s first amendment. The team focuses on protecting life and property during significant incidents of unrest and can provide large amounts of manpower to respond to any large-scale events.
