Lordsburg, NM – On Thursday, March 11, 2021, at about noon, New Mexico State Police officers in Lordsburg received information from the Los Angeles California County Sheriff’s Department that Nicholas Gutierrez, 27, of Long Beach, CA was possibly traveling along Interstate 10 through New Mexico headed for the state of Louisiana. Gutierrez was wanted for Murder out of Los Angeles County, CA. Gutierrez was reported to be driving a 1990 two-door white Acura Integra with California license plates.
At about 3:00 p.m., a New Mexico State Police officer saw the Acura at the Circle K gas station in Lordsburg. The vehicle was unoccupied, and Gutierrez was in the store. When Gutierrez was walking back to his vehicle the State Police officer approached him. Gutierrez attempted to flee from the officer and get back into his vehicle. The State Police officer deployed his taser and subdued Gutierrez before he could get back into his vehicle. The officer took Gutierrez into custody without further incident.
“Situations like this one, remind all of us, just how often my officers are suddenly faced with very dangerous individuals with little to no warning.” Said Robert Thornton, Chief of the New Mexico State Police “My officer’s quick and professional thinking made sure another dangerous individual is off the street.”
