Specialized Response to Radiological and Hazardous Materials Threats

Joining the Homeland Security team means being part of an elite group trained to handle some of the most dangerous situations imaginable. Our specialists collaborate with a network of local, state, and federal agencies to mitigate risks associated with chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats. Through intensive training and strategic planning, our unit is prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any hazardous materials incident. This commitment to excellence in emergency management and hazardous materials response is a cornerstone of our mission, as we work tirelessly to protect the people and environment of New Mexico.

24/7 Readiness and Interagency Collaboration

Our Homeland Security Specialists are always ready to act, with members designated to specific Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) that provide vital services during a crisis. During activations of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), our personnel are responsible for:

  • ESF9: Managing search and rescue operations.
  • ESF10: Leading hazardous materials response efforts.
  • ESF13: Coordinating public safety and security measures.

This structure allows us to provide comprehensive support, from saving lives and protecting property to restoring essential services and infrastructure. Our team’s ability to operate seamlessly with other agencies is critical in helping communities recover swiftly and return to normalcy after an incident. If you are driven by a sense of duty and are ready to face the challenges of protecting our state, a career with the Homeland Security: Radiological Response and Hazardous Materials unit may be your calling.
