Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Bernalillo County

Bernalillo County, NM – On August 23, 2022, at around 9:30 p.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles on I-40 eastbound, at milepost 161, east of Albuquerque.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by 31-year-old Ricky Trujillo of Albuquerque, rear-ended the back of a 2022 Peterbilt tractor trailer and struck a 2018 Chrysler passenger vehicle, while trying to pass between the vehicles in-between lanes.

Mr. Trujillo was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver and passenger in the Peterbilt vehicle were not injured. The driver of the Chrysler was also not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Speed does appear to have been a factor. Mr. Trujillo was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
