Dona County, NM – On September 12, 2021, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a one vehicle fatal crash on NM Highway 28, near mile post 9, south of La Mesa, NM.
The initial investigation indicated a 2011 Cadillac CTS passenger car, driven by a 19-year-old male from El Paso, TX, was traveling south on NM Highway 28. For reasons still under investigation, the Cadillac left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver along with a 14-year-old female passenger in the vehicle, sustained unknown injuries in the crash. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have not been utilized by both passengers. For the privacy of the family, the 14-year-old passenger’s name will not be released by State Police. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
