San Miguel County, NM– On April 9, 2023, at around 3:15 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 25 near mile marker 324 north of Villanueva, New Mexico.
The initial investigation indicated a 2003 Chevrolet truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 324. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Chevrolet left the roadway and rolled. The driver and front passenger were ejected. The passenger, Desiree Apodaca (21) of Las Vegas, NM sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a twenty-year-old male, and the rear passenger a three-year-old child were transported to an area hospital in Las Vegas, New Mexico where they were treated for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts do not appear to have been properly utilized by the driver and front passenger. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police. No additional information is available at this time.
