Albuquerque, NM – On May 21, 2023, at around 2:00 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving 2 passenger vehicles and a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) on Interstate 40 near mile marker 160 in Albuquerque, NM.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2019 Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 40. Due to inclement weather, the Toyota began to slide and sideswiped a 2008 Ford passenger vehicle driven by Flora Garcia (64) of Farmington, NM. The Ford began to spin counterclockwise and was t boned by the CMV. Ms. Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Toyota and driver of the CMV, both 48-year-old females, were not injured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor and seatbelts do appear to have been properly utilized.
This crash is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
