Guadalupe County, NM – On February 2, 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash involving two Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) on Interstate 40 eastbound near milepost 271, west of Santa Rosa, NM.
The initial investigation shows a 2019 Freightliner CMV, driven a Sarwan Singh (27) and passenger, Harmeet Saini (29), both of Ontario, Canada, were both traveling east on Interstate 40. As the CMV approached traffic that was backed up from a prior crash, the driver, Sarwan drove onto the shoulder of Interstate 40. The CMV struck the rear end of another 2019 Freightliner CMV, which was driven by a 43-year-old male.
Sarwan Singh and Harmeet Siani sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and they were both pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The 43-year-old male driver of the other CMV was uninjured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly used. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
